On Viking miniatures

(Para a versão em Português, clique aqui)

Vikings are one of the most versatile kind of miniature: these minis may be used to represent the vikings themselves (norwegian, danish, sweden, icelanders, greenlanders.. .you name it), or to be played as any random "wild nomad barbarian tribe", and also Normans and Saxons.

If you are not very "picky" with historical accuracy of the clothes and armor style, you may even use vikings miniatures as if they were goths, vandals, gauls, celtiberians, lusithanians, etc. (and vice-versa).

And if you are into fantasy battles, specially from The Lord of the Rings , your vikings minis may easily stand for Rohirin foot warriors and also for the evil men tribes that allied with Isengard and Mordor, for example.

My favorite viking minis are those from Strelets. I really like their style (the guys from Plastic Soldier Review often complain about their sculpting, but I think this is a matter of aesthetics and taste)

My collection, so far, includes Strelets 250 - Vikings, Emhar 7205 - Vikings, Orion 72004 - Vikings and Strelets 002 - Vikings against Franks.

Their lack of uniforms means that it is much more fun to paint such minis, since there is more freedom to choose collors and thus more freedom to build a varied army.
