Why 1/72?

(Para a versão em português, clique aqui)

When I started collecting medieval miniatures I chose the 1/72 scale due to a few reasons:

1) It is not necessary to assemble (glue) the miniatures (except for the weapons and shields in a few cases, and maybe sometimes glue the horsemen on their horses - in larger scales it is often needed to glue several parts in order to assemble a single miniature. Personally, I don't enjoy very much working with glue);

2) I can store armies of hundreds of miniatures inside small boxes, thus occupying little space in my home;

3)A regular dinner table can be easily used to create a large battlefield;

4) Scenery (houses, towers, castles, trees, etc.) is not very large and does not occupy much space when stored;

5) It is possible to use 1/72 minis to play compact wargames (For example, using pocket chess boards as maps and each mini representing  a whole battalion);

6) the 1/72 scale is big enough to actually see the details on each miniature (which also helps to paint them) - and this is why I prefer 1/72 over 15mm, 6mm or 2mm, even though these are much more compact (though I might like 15mm too); and

7) I think this scale has a great cost/benefit ratio, since one can pay relatively cheap for boxes with 30+ miniatures (for example, Strelets kits often come with 56 miniatures, and there are even some HaT kits that come with 96 miniatures!) and thus one is able to muster larger armies for less coin.
